《基础地球科学》是用于地质、地理、工程地质，以及岩土工程、勘察、矿产、土建和国土资源等相关专业双语教学的基础地球科学（普通地质学）教材，是为了适应和满足国内地学类专业双语教学要求而编写。全书用英文编写。
    为了适应学科的发展，对传统的普通地质学内容有所取舍；为了适应学科融合的趋势，并扩大学生的知识面，加入了一些传统意义上属于别的学科的内容。《基础地球科学》在版面形式上吸取国内外优秀教材的优点，在每一章的前面都列出关键词，在每一章后面有回答问题和多项选择练习。对学生掌握所学内容有很大帮助。
