本书稿为2019年由复旦大学、荷兰鹿特丹伊拉斯姆斯大学和荷兰莱顿大学主办的＂第二届长江与莱茵河历史文化比较研讨会＂之论文结集，论文作者来自复旦大学、南京大学、南开大学、中山大学、厦门大学等国内高校，以及荷兰莱顿大学、鹿特丹伊拉斯姆斯大学、乌得勒支大学及德国法兰克福大学等国外研究机构。所收论文围绕历史上长江流域与莱茵河流域的经济和商业、劳工和社会、环境与生态等议题。本书的内容有助于学界进一步认识因地理关系而形成的社会、经济、文化关系，将其结集出版，旨在鼓励学者拓宽研究视野、开展国际交流，并在此基础上推动跨文化研究。
