内容介绍
Erping Village in Southwestern China's Sichuan Province is located on top of a precipitous mountain in a grand canyon, with only dangerous paths leading to the outside world. A teacher couple left their hometown to teach in this small Yi minority-inhabited village. Over the past two decades, they have worked and lived here, sowing seeds of knowledge in a place which was once dominated by illiteracy. Though poorly paid, they were never wavered by difficulties and poverty, but persisted and worked hard, bringing education and hope to children in the remote mountainous region. With vivid description and a touching for this book tells an inspiring story of two passionate educators, representing a modern Chinese version of "Prometheus".

  《新时代的中国人·天梯之上:乡村老师李桂林和陆建芬夫妇(英)》:
"As long as one has a belief and something to pursue, he shall be able to bear any hardships and survive any difficult circumstances. He remembered what a writer had written in a book he read back in high school. In those days, these words became his motto, inspiring him to move forward regardless of any ordeal. To avoid being late for one minute or missing one class, he always got up before the daybreak, and set out to school sometimes even without having any breakfast. After school, he had to take a long walk home, and sometimes the darkness descended before he reached halfway. Driven by the motto, he had survived all those hardships and grew up to be a man with a good reputation.
Thinking of his present situation, however, Guilin's pride in his old self was replaced by bitter self-reproach and profound introspection. "Why can't I endure the hardships that I managed to overcome before? Since the two walnut trees without will or wisdom can live here, why can't I do the same?
While he was deep in contemplatlion, Amushida walked towards him, shouting "Mr. Li, time for breakfast!
"Thanks, I'm not hungry Why not go and see the school first? Guilin said.
"School? Amushida couldn't believe his ears.
"Yes. Guilin looked at him resolutely
Amushida wanted to say something, but after a short hesitation, he showed Guilin the way to school.
It was located near the entrance of the village, actually regarded as a central location in the village.
What jumped into Guilin's eyes was better to be called ruins rather than a school. There were only several small adobe houses with incomplete roofs as a result of being deserted for many years. The school, which should have been a holy place for education, had become a paradise for mice. The vacant lot, which looked like a playground, was overgrown with weeds and covered by rubble, a scene of utter desolation.
"The school was suspended ten years ago, and the place has since been left dilapidated," Amushida explained to Guilin, seeing his eyes fixed on a pile of stones near one side of the mountain. "In recent years, few people came here, except some young shepherds. Once, after a two-day heavy rain, a mudslide swept away a part of the retaining wall. If torrents of water rush down from the mountains, I'm afraid
the school would have nothing left."
Amushida sighed, "It would be better if the school collapses. Out of sight, out of mind."
"If it collapses, where would the students take classes? Guilin asked.
"What the hell is the use of a harrow if no ox pulls it? Amushida responded emotionally
"What if there is an ox?" Guilin asked calmly. "You? Amushida asked in disbelief.
"Yes, me! I'll come here to teach! Guilin answered in earnest, staring at Amushida.
