Every year on the 15th day of the eighth lunar month is held the Mid-Autumn Festival or Moon Festival. According to the ancientcalendar, the eighth lunar month is in the middle of autumn, and the15th day of the month is in the middle of the month. On that night, themoon is supposed to be brighter and fuller than in any other month andthe moonlight the most beautiful. In China, a full moon is symbolic offamily reunion, so the day is also known as The Day of Reunion Notes: symbolic.OK. You are supposed to show respect to the friendly and hospitablehost. Guests should not start to eat until the host says:Please enjoyyourself or something like that. The meal usually begins with a few colddishes, to be fallowed by the main courses of hot dishes. Soup is oftenserved as the last course except in Cantonese restaurants. Usually peopleeat with chopsticks. Remember not to put chopsticks upright in the ricebowls or tap them with chopsticks to avoid impoliteness. Don't dig in thefood or eat only one food that suits your taste best. Once the top half ofthe fish has been eaten, don't turn it over unless the host does. If a hostserves you some dishes, it's a sign of friendship, so you can eat whateverit is or just leave the food alone. By the way, people at the table maytalk loudly and you have to get used to it and enjoy yourself.
