教材分两个部分：一、学术交流英语；二、中国传统文化交流。 对于学术交流英语，挑选了编者认为对于当下学术交流英语最基础、最必要、最有特色的专题。第一单元以学术交流英语电子邮件的写作为主题，该单元详尽介绍了英语电子邮件格式和语言上的标准和要求，并提供了电子邮件的常用套语，还展示了学术交流英语电子邮件的范文，供读者参考学习。第二单元以学术发言讲稿为主题，不仅介绍了相关的格式、文体的标准和要求，而且着重介绍了利用视觉辅助手段加强学术发言汇报的吸引力的技巧。第三单元以国际学术会议交流为主题，介绍了会议之前、之中、之后的种种注意事项，强调了如何把握国际学术会议的机会进行学术社交，深度参与国际交流的可行性和重要性。第四单元以提升英语表达的基本功为主题，对“结构、衔接、用词、文体”这几个英语表达的要素进行了介绍，希望读者借此对于英语表达有系统的把握。四个单元提纲挈领，突出重点，旨在通过上述标准、要求、范文、实例的学习和课后练习的操练，让读者能够熟练掌握英语学术交流的几个最重要方面，从而提高自己的英语学术交流能力，拓展自己的国际学术圈，为今后科研走向世界打下坚实基础。 对于中国传统文化交流，选取了中国传统文化的核心部分——《四书》及其英译作为本书的内容，通过系统地梳理《四书》英译中外大家的译本，理解翻译的基本要点，特别是中国文言翻译的一些核心理念和技巧。
