The term "logistics" has become much more widely recognized by the general public in the last thirty years. Transportation companies, especially trucking companies, frequently refer to their organizations as logistics companies and paint it on the side of their trailers. Another factor contributing to the recognition of logistics has been the increasing sensitivity to not only product quality but also the associated service quality.
Logistics is often seen as just the transportation of goods from one place to another. In fact, this view is too narrow and does not reflect the more complex and comprehensive nature of the function. Logistics is really about managing every aspect of a companys business, from sourcing raw materials to production, warehousing, marketing, pricing, sales and ultimately the transportation of the finished goods to the buyer.
