本书以系统功能语言学及二语习得相关理论为理据，采用文本分析、问卷调查的研究方法，着重研究中国英语专业学生议论文中词汇衔接运用特征及其习得发展规律。研究结果表明：与英语本族语使用者相比，中国英语学习者议论文写作中五类词汇衔接纽带存在密度不强、配置不均衡、衔接欠紧凑的问题；问题的主要症结在于学习者的词汇衔接意识不强、对具体词汇语义和语法特征的认知不清，以及对语境的分析能力十分有限；词汇衔接的习得发展层面，由一年级至四年级，中国英语专业学生议论文中词汇衔接纽带运用逐步体现出使用密度呈线性增长、类型配置趋均衡化、衔接力度日益紧凑的发展特点。该书研究成果能为国际词汇衔接研究领域提供一个“中国视角”，揭示出英语词汇衔接在非母语环境下的使用特征与形成过程，并同时惠及以词汇为研究对象的二语习得、英汉双语对比、英汉互译等领域科学研究，对当前我国各大专院校英语词汇、写作、翻译等教学与研究有重要指导意义。
