《四级阅读》为英语专业四、八级考试丛书“英语专业四级阅读理解卷”，按照全国高校英语专业指导委员会对2005年四、八级考试题型所作调整后的新题型原则编写，旨在为考生提供选材新颖、内容丰富、针对性强、符合命题趋势的考前阅读材料。
    根据认知语言学和心理语言学的观点，一个人的阅读效率和他／她大脑中存储的图式（schema）有关。如果头脑中有某种图式，阅读相关的内容就比较容易，否则就要花很大的力气来建构新的图式。这就告诉广大考生在考前应该扩大阅读量，丰富头脑中的图式，增强文化背景知识，以便于在考试时发挥自如。
    《四级阅读》第一部分介绍了最新的TEM 4考试大纲（2004）阅读部分的要求、对阅读过程的认识、快速阅读的方法，归纳分析了TEM 4阅读题型和答题技巧。第二部分精选20个单元的TEM 4阅读模拟题。第三、四部分提供了参考答案和详尽的解释。第五部分汇编了2000～2006 TEM 4全真题阅读部分。第六、七部分提供了真题参考答案和详尽的解释。附录部分给出阅读模拟文章标题，以便于考生有针对性地阅读。
