    第9单元动物与饲料
    饲料是被动物摄取之后能够被消化、吸收和利用的物质。一般来说，我们用“饲料”这一术语来描述可食用的物质。例如，我们把青草和干草也说成是饲料，但小是它们的所有成分都能被消化。在本书中，一般用“饲料”这一术语来描述这种物质，而用“营养物质”一词来描述能够被动物利用的成分。
    家畜的饲粮包括植物和植物产品，尽管有些饲料还含有动物原料，如鱼粉和乳，但这些物质的含量足相对少的。动物依赖植物而生存，对于动物营养物质的研究首先必须从植物本身开始。
    植物能够以简单物质（例如从空气中吸收的二氧化碳，从土壤中吸收水分和无机元素）为原料合成复杂的物质。植物可通过光合作用，利用太阳能，但大部分能量以化学能的形式储存于植物体内，动物利用这种能量来维持生命和合成自身身体组织。植物和动物所含的化学物质类型相似，我们可以根据其结构、特性和功能进行分类。
