Originally called Fangshan Mountain，Heaven Dragon Mountain is situated in a place 40kmsouthwest ofTaiyuan City at an altitude of 1 700m above sea，with towering momentum and densewoods There is a path leading to the mountain top along the mountain foot Thc mountain top is a platform ofabout 20-30mu，which was formed by then Taizhong ZhaoGuangyi of Song Dynasty through ruining fiat the peak in “removing dragon horn”aftermassacring the inhabitants ofJinyang City.Walking down along the stone road，you can see theWell一known Heaven Dragon Mountain Grottoes Atier detailed study，we know that in theoverhanging c Liffs halfway up the east and west peaks are 27 grottoes，which were initially dugin the period of East Wei（AC 534-550）and subsequently dug in North Qi，Sui and TangDynasties.The grottoes are connected through by mountain paths，and the ninth grotto is the oneof Tang Dynasty at thc level of national treasure.It is said that under the cliff originally are“Manshan Loft”ofwood structure，whichwasinjuriedlaterand repairedintoa hall bythepeopletoday.Though in exquisite combination with the terrain ofmountain and the dark green cliIf，theloft has had the big Buddha closed within it.After entering the hall，you can see the grotto isdivided into the upper and lower layers In the upper layer is Maitreya Buddha，a sitting statue 8meters high，whichis stillmostperfectamongmanyBuddhas ofHeavenDragonMountainthoughlocally ruined In the lower layer is a Guanyin statue，1 1 meters high，which wears a necklace ofiade and pearls and transparent tussore and has a well-shaped body.The carving skill for the statuehas been greatly different from that ofNorth Wei and it is a statue ofhighest artist value in Heaven Dragon Mountain.
