黄建滨，浙江大学外国语学院教授、博士生导师，浙江科技学院外国语学院、人文学院特聘教授。曾任教育部高等学校大学外语教学指导委员会秘书长、委员，原浙江大学外国语学院党委副书记，人文学部中国文化传播中心主任。在高等教育出版社、浙江大学出版社、外语教学与研究出版社、上海外语教育出版社等出版英语专著、教材、教辅合计100余部。在国内外学术期刊如《现代外语》《外语界》《中国外语》《外语教学》《学位与研究生教育》，以及Polyglossia(《多语言与多语言教育研究》)等发表论文180余篇。

本书在修辞理论和语用学理论的指导下，通过收集大量英语修辞格实例，经过分析对比、归纳总结、分类整理，探讨英语修辞格的应用，加强读者对英语修辞格的感性认识，提高其鉴赏能力，进而使其产生模仿和运用这些修辞格手段的强烈愿望并掌握英语修辞格的构成手段和方法，从而提高其英语写作水平。 本书首先梳理了国内外知名学者关于修辞格的定义，指出修辞理论和修辞格的关系、英语修辞格的使用规律，然后探讨英语修辞格的功能、作用和特点等，并从多角度探讨英语修辞格的重要性。
