作为《长篇阅读》的第4级，《长篇阅读4》的选篇长度为1200词左右，生词不超过文章词汇总量的1％，建议限时阅读速度为每分钟110～130词。学生可以记录完成时问和答题正确率，以便评估自己的阅读速度和阅读水平。 为培养良好的阅读技能，逐步提高阅读的速度与准确率，学生可参考教材中的“长篇阅读技能指南”。为推动个性化、自主化学习，本教材还依托U校园3.0配备数字课程，学生可设置不同阅读模式、调节阅读速度以进行自主训练，教师也可查看学生的学习进度与成绩。
