本书为帮助读者面对纷杂的跨文化交际情景编纂，把国内外虽经研究，但仍是抽象、零散的跨文化交际概念、规范、知识等转化为动态的交际实践，以工具书的形式，系统地给使用者提供全方位的帮助，以满足跨文化交际过程中的种种需求，在国内尚属首例。本书提供近3000个可供交际中运用的话题，涵盖方方面面的交际主题（约900个主题）。同时，对于日常跨文化交际行为活动中棘手的问题与常见的失误给予了指导，并针对中国人易犯的跨文化语用错误，给出了恰当的英文表达。
