Fly Tigers
Strictly speaking, the “Flying Tigers” only refers to the First American Volunteer
Team that came to China to help from August 1941 to July 1942. Later, with the
advancement of the war and the changing strategic needs, the First Volunteer Team of
the United States undergone many adaptations. “Flying Tigers”, formally an unofficial
nickname, became a general name, referring to the US Air Force in China of the US Army
10th Air Force, the US Army 14th Air Force, the Sino-US Air Force Mixed Wing, the Hump
Airlift and China Airlines.

The 987th Special Signal Company
The 987th Special Signal Company was a covert force responsible for the wireless
communication among the Chinese ground forces, and between Chinese and US forces.
It also worked between the field or the logistical forces and the Allied Commands, and
worked for the Chinese reconnaissance agents that had infiltrated Japanese-occupied areas
and for the spies and investigators. It also had to decipher Japanese telegrams and train
Chinese technicians. This special unit consists of 8 officers and 176 soldiers. Except for
a few officers, such as the company commander, who were Americans, the rest were all
Chinese recruited in the United States. It was required that every soldier understand both
